THE CLIENT: A LARGE FOOD MANUFACTURER
THE CHALLENGE:
A large food manufacturer with 3 locations was experiencing surprise interruptions from broken or out of date data collection devices. The downtime that resulted was detrimental to profitability. Sporadic device failures would cause a domino effect, with efficiency and productivity decreasing in the manufacturing, warehousing and IT departments.
THE APPROACH:
Bar Code Direct initiated an in-depth study which determined that most device issues occurred after 24 months into the life cycle of the unit. However, budgetary constraints did not allow for the purchase of new devices every two years.
THE SOLUTION:
Bar Code Direct and the food manufacturer created a custom leasing agreement that allowed all new devices to be swapped, or added to, every 24 months. The agreement was constructed to be operated as an off-books operating expense, which qualified the company for certain tax advantages.
